I have been working with Dan Rome for several years and when he told me he was venturing out to create a new studio, I was ready to put our mixes on hold and go with him. Equipped with top audio gear, great instruments, multiple control rooms, a lounge and kitchenette I am put at ease when I come [to Big Lake] and able to focus on the creative side of music. We have tracked piano, ambient pieces, several full band live recordings, critical listening, creative edits, and have been deepening my knowledge of the recording process (a neverending endeavour). I highly recommend this studio for so many reasons and look forward to continuing producing music here with Dan, Ian, and the incredible musicians I am lucky to surround myself with.

The space is dynamic and inspiring. A beautiful mix of natural light, vibey, ambiance, and a series of unique rooms stocked with modern and vintage gear, capable of taking on just about any project. Everyone who works here is not only an expert in their craft, but also incredibly kind, easy going, and collaborative. Special shout out to the good wizard Ian Steinberg! I should also note how prime the location is. Right in downtown Burlington. Despite its proximity to everything, stepping inside this space is a total time warp. A day flies by in minutes. I find this kind of loose/absent time experience to be a classic mark of existing in deep flow and beyond exceptional recordings. It’s this state of being that Big Lake produces. 10 out of 10!

Ian and Dan worked with me to get my best sound while making sure we stayed true to the vision of the songs that I brought to the studio. I had the good fortune to start recording at Big Lake soon after they opened the studio and am so impressed not only by its calm and centered feel but also the state of the art recording equipment they’ve brought into this space.

It is a recording studio as its main function, but it is also an urban tree fort, a labyrinth of treasures, and a humble third space for artists. Lots of things could get you in the door (tons of vintage gear, new Neve board, and a baby grand piano room), but you stay for the people. Both the owners/engineers, Dan and Ian, are people that I am honored to call dear friends now. They both care about the art of recording/producing music and that shows in the space and the music they help create.
